Isabelle (Mona) Alfred of Queens Village passed away 14th August 2013 with her daughters by her side. Though she had a difficult illness for many years, she maintained a positive outlook and never gave up. Despite the challenges she faced she enjoyed life to the fullest.
Isabelle was born to the late Marie and Raoul Emile Palmansingh 14th of August 1933 in Castries, St. Lucia. She completed high school there and later moved to the United Kingdom. She was married to Sylvester Alfred on 18th March 1961 and they lived in London, England before relocating to Queens Village in 1965.
She did wiring and soldering work for many years. She helped create the communications system used during the first walk on the moon in 1969. Isabelle, affectionately known as Monie, loved to travel and vacation with her family.
Isabelle is survived by her husband of 52 years, Sylvester Alfred of Queens Village; her two children Yvette Alfred Cerretani of Hartsdale; and Lydia Alfred Benson of North Bellmore. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Nicolas Alfred Cerretani, Italia Isabella Cerretani, and Lyndsay Brianna Alfred Benson.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday 21st August, at R. Stutzmann Funeral Home from 5-9pm. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday 22nd August at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale, NY. Interment will immediately follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
