Jim graduated from high school at the Don Bosco School in Mandaluyong, Philippines and went on to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City. During his time at UP, he gained a second family in the Beta Epsilon fraternity and stayed ever connected to his “brods” around the world. In 1984, Jim immigrated to the United States to lay a foundation for his family, launching his Structural Engineering career at Rosenwasser/Grossman Consulting Engineers, P.C.. Over the years, through hard work, determination and meticulousness, he developed into a leading specialist in high rise-concrete design. Jim was a beloved mentor, respected colleague, and friend to many in the building industry. After 40 years in the field, he retired from Ysrael A. Seinuk, P.C. in February 2021, with a sense of contentment, knowing that the buildings which he took great pride in designing, will continue to stand tall in major U.S. cities and around the world.
Tennis was one of Jim’s all-time favorite sports to play. He was a die hard Mets and Jets fan. He also loved taking photos to capture moments in time. It brought him joy to be able to relive his favorite memories and experiences. He had big plans for retirement and the post-COVID era to come, such as traveling more, reuniting with old friends, taking a road trip to Montreal, and simply enjoying the rest of his days. Jim loved being around people. He was looking forward to a less socially distant world to be able to fully socialize again, eat, drink and be merry in good company at his favorite restaurants, and catch up on all the special holidays/birthdays/milestone celebrations that he missed. .
Jim is survived by his three children, John, Sarah Ann, and Margaret; his four grandchildren, Jordan, Seraphin, Janna, and Wren; his older brother and sister, Mauricio and Antonietta; his nephews, nieces, cousins, and all his living brothers in engineering (Betans).
