Jose Bernard Julme was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 3rd 1983, to Joseph and Marie Julme. Jose’s parents, both from Haiti, came to the USA in search of opportunities for a better life. Jose’s birth represented the start of them building a family together in this country. Jose’s parents imparted to him the values of family, faith, hard work, and education.
Jose attended Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark, New Jersey, and graduated in 2001. He received his Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Essex County College in 2005. Jose received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from CUNY Medgar Evers College in 2011. Jose’s time at CUNY MEC was especially impactful because he established many strong relationships with both fellow students and professors alike. Former CUNY MEC classmates describe Jose as someone who was kind, generous, helpful, and had a great sense of humor.
If there was one thing that Jose was passionate about, it was computers. Jose was considered by many to be somewhat of a technology guru. When he wasn’t working with computers as part of his job, he was actively gaming or researching the latest technology. Jose’s career in the information technology sector spanned over twenty years, having worked as an IT technician/specialist for Rutgers University (2001-2003), CUNY Medgar Evers College (2007-2010), Ford Foundation (2008-2009), RFCUNY/MS 246 (2008-2010), and CUNY Hunter College from 2010 to 2023. Jose took great pride in being a hard worker and loyal employee at all his places of employment.
Jose met his future wife, Tricia, in March of 2009. Their son, Jayden, was born on July 21st, 2011. Jose and Tricia married on March 24th, 2012. During the ceremony, the minister performed a special ribbon binding ceremony with Jose, Tricia, and Tricia’s young daughter, Angelique. The ribbon binding ceremony signified the joining and creation of a new family bond. Through the years, Jose, Tricia, Angelique, and Jayden enjoyed many wonderful family bonding experiences together, and supported each other through good and challenging times.
Jose was preceded in death by his mother, Marie, on April 12th, 2021. Jose is survived by his father, Joseph Julme, his younger brother Mitchell, his wife Tricia, his son Jayden, his stepdaughter Angelique, his mother-in-law Margaret, and relatives in Haiti including his uncle, Calix. Jose also leaves behind many friends who consider themselves blessed to have known him. Jose will always be remembered for being a wonderful man who had strong faith in God, was kind and generous to others, and was a loving husband, father, brother, and son.
