Lelia Larosiliere passed away on Sunday June 14, 2026 in Manhasset, NY. From her birth in Les Cayes, Haiti on July 25, 1953 to her death, she enveloped those around her with love and devotion. Known affectionately as Yaya, she was the last of six children to Lelio Larosiliere and Leonide Larosiliere, née Rousseau. She emigrated with her family from Haiti to New York City in 1967. She graduated from Charles Evans Hughes High School in 1971.
After high school, Yaya attended Manhattan Community College. She worked as an executive assistant on Park Avenue for a few years. She returned to Haiti for several years to do humanitarian work and immersed herself in the church. Upon her return to NY she then attended nursing school. She earned her certificate in licensed practical nursing in 1999 from Nassau Technological Center. She worked for many years at Parker Jewish Institute for Rehabilitation in New Hyde Park as the night charge nurse on her unit until she retired.
Yaya was an avid parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Cambria Heights, NY. Her special interests and hobbies included expressing her adoration to God by actively participating in her church group and going on pilgrimages to various cathedrals and churches. Yaya especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a fiery personality. Her passionate spirit was felt by all. Yaya always had a kind word, some sage advice, and a funny story to share.
She is survived by her brothers Forene Larosiliere, Yves Maurice, and Karlo Dorismond, as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She is predeceased by her beloved parents Lelio (Papa Yoyo) and Leonide (Man Ninide) and her brothers Frantz (Franky) and Jean-Marie Larosiliere, as well as her sisters Cleomelie (Tite Soeur) Ligonde, and Ginette Larosiliere.
