Lesvia E. Mejia, a cherished aunt, departed this world at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. Born in Colombia, she embarked on a journey to the United States in 1969 alongside her dear sister, Carmen Alcalá, venturing into the unknown with fierce determination and courage. Lesvia's commitment to building a better life for herself and her family led her to work tirelessly as a cleaning lady in the bustling offices of New York City for over three decades.
Though she never married nor had children of her own, Lesvia poured her boundless love and affection into nurturing her nieces and nephew and their children. Her selflessness knew no bounds, and her devotion was a guiding light in their lives.
Lesvia's zest for life was evident in her love for dancing to the rhythms of Colombian music and salsa, her passion for cooking traditional Colombian meals, and her unabashed enjoyment of food. She was the OG foodie! She took great pleasure in experiencing new flavors and dining experiences! Even up until a few days before her passing, she was eating well with the same passion for food she always had. Yet, it was her infectious laughter that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her laughter was a full bodied experience to be celebrated and applauded and she reminded us that life was meant to be enjoyed.
As we bid farewell to Lesvia, we hold onto the cherished memories of her laughter, her love, and her unwavering spirit. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her laughter continue to echo in our hearts forevermore.
