We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father Luis Felipe Ontaneda on June 19, 2023. He was 74 years old. He is survived by his wife Ana Fior, his siblings Betty, Alfredo, Tomas, Anita, his children Susana (Tim), Luis Jr. (Julie), Triana, Wandder (Kaury), his grandchildren Timmie, Gaby, Luke, Callie, Kristal, Kamila, Khristian, and all his family and friends.
Luis was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador but moved to Queens, New York as a very young man in the early 70s. He was a yellow taxi cab driver and knew NYC like the back of his hand. He also drove commercial trucks, buses, & medical transportation vehicles all over the city. Luis first joined the National Guard, then enlisted in the Army in the 80s and retired with honors as a Combat Medic after serving 3 decades in the military with a rank of E-8 Master Sergeant. He was deployed to the Gulf War in 1990, as well as the Iraq War in 2005, and trained soldiers on how to medically care for the wounded ones. During his years of service, he worked in Jamaica Hospital and Wyckoff Hospital as an Operating Room Technician for many years before being stationed in San Antonio, Texas, where he would live the rest of his life. Luis attended WBU in San Antonio, and graduated with his Master of Applied Science. Luis was a GS7 Lead Medical Supply Technician in Sterile Processing Service at the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Antonio, and took great pride in all of his achievements throughout his years, despite any adversities.
Luis was a family man, an amazing father and grandfather, and was easily loved by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was funny, sweet, loving, charming, kind, and very intelligent. He could hold conversations on just about any topic, and knew a little bit of everything. He was a happy man who was so full of life, and loved to dance any chance he got. He loved all kinds of music, especially the oldies, and had a great appreciation for old school movies, watching sports, and the outdoors. His dignity, hard work and dedication led him to receive countless medals, awards, and certificates throughout his life, and we could not be more proud of all of his accomplishments.
Luis had a lot of integrity, he was a selfless man with a pure heart who loved to make people laugh in his own special way, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rstutzmannandsonfuneralhome.com for the Ontaneda family.
