Luisa immigrated to the United States in 1980 to be a nurse and administrator for the City of New York, where she served for 36 years. Luisa lived life to the fullest, traveling around the world, ballroom dancing, growing her jewelry business, and doting on her grandchildren. She was also very devoted to the Catholic Church and served the eucharist to the infirm, organized prayer novenas, participated in the Divine Mercy prayer group, and raised funds for Catholic orphanages in the Philippines.
Luisa battled renal kidney failure, and all the complications that came with it, for many years. She received a transplant from her steadfast sister Pacita, which extended her life by more than two decades, far longer than anticipated. We thank the dedicated doctors and nurses in the Mount Sinai kidney, heart, and cancer teams, the staff of the Henry J. Carter rehabilitation facility, and her aides Nimfa, Lee and Eva for their tireless efforts in attending to her medical needs and giving her comfort in her final years.
Luisa passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024 surrounded by her closest family and friends. She is survived by her mother, daughter Elyssa, son-in-law James, grandsons Teddy and Gus, sisters Pacita and Isabel, brother Renerio, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a loving and generous person who will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Luisa, we love you and miss you everyday and take solace in knowing that you have returned to the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in her name to one of Luisa's favorite U.S. charities - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
