Magalie Israel was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti - under President Francois Duvalier – on April 30th, 1959. Her parents were Mr. Max Louis Israel and Mrs. Altagracia (Souffrant) Israel (Saint-Jean). She and her Younger brother (Gary) were born and raised in a Seventh - day Adventist environment. She was baptized when she was 9 years-old at Bethany SDA church in Petion-Ville, Haiti. In 1974, the entire family emigrated to the United States. She and her brother lived in Boston where she pursued her high School studies at Boston English HS. Magalie was very bright in most subjects, especially in Math; that is why she received a Math award from the State officials of Massachusetts before she came to NY where she attended Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). She graduated and obtained her degree in nursing in 1992, went on to get her license as a nurse and started her successful and rewarding career as an excellent pediatric nurse with several agencies, a primary nurse at Elmhurst City Hospital, then as a drug rehab nurse at Cornerstone Medical Arts Center Hospital on Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows, NY. She stayed there dedicating her life to serve and help her patients, and getting along with staff and coworkers. Despite various health challenges, with pain and suffering, Magalie continued to work until 2019 when she could not keep it up any longer.
Spiritually, Magalie Israel always took her relationship with her Lord very seriously. After her Baptism at age 9 in Haiti, she chose to get baptized again at age 17 during her short stay at Loma Linda University. Whether it was in churches in Haiti or in the USA, she was active and dedicated to serve her Lord either as deaconess, youth leader, church secretary or choir member or any other feasible capacities. In many instances she was a blessing wherever she went as a humanitarian.
Throughout her life, Magalie Israel stood out above all for her kindness, her affability, her love for all human beings, her dedication to serve and her eagerness to do her best for her Lord. She was a caring, giving, friendly, well-mannered and a selfless person. A special mention needs to be made for her close relationship with her brothers, her sister, her sister in laws all family members. She had a gift to care and check upon everyone with posters and words of encouragements.
After a long period of illness and pain dauntlessly endured, Magalie Israel prayed with the immediate members of her family who surrounded her until she gave her last breath on Sunday evening April 2, 2023.
