Marie A. Menelas was born on April 3, 1939 in Aux Cayes, Haiti, she was the daughter of the late Alida Amazan. She was raised with her cousin Herman Rene’, by her late mother and late Aunt Junie Amazan.
In her early 20’s she relocated from Haiti to the United States where she married her life partner, Fritz Joseph Menelas. From this union was born one child, Joanne Menelas Barnes.
During her life in Haiti, Marie was an educator. In her pass time she taught herself the art of embroidery and used this acquired skill to make clothing for her daughter.
Once she entered the United States she was employed as a factory worker until her health started to fail. Although in failing health, it did not prevent Marie from being the epitome of the ideal housewife and mother who took great joy in cooking and baking for family and friends.
Although Marie's health continued to fail, she remained an active participant in family and non-family activities.
Marie is survived by one daughter, Joanne J. Barnes, one son-in-law Fred J. Barnes and one granddaughter Fallon J. Barnes, extended families, the Joseph’s, Amazan’s and Rene’s and a host of cousins, godchildren and friends.
