It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Olga Samaroo, affectionately known as “Aunty Olga,” who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 19th, 1936, in Wakenaam, Guyana, Olga was orphaned at a young age and had no memory of her parents. She was lovingly raised by her widowed grandmother, Amy, along with two siblings. Amy instilled in them the importance of family, teaching them that family was not just about blood relatives, but also about neighbors, friends, - the whole community.
Olga was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roland Samaroo (Sr.), her brother Ivelaw Speirs, and her sisters Shiela Rampersaud, and Verley Simboo.
Olga is survived by her children Ann, Cleo, Clayton, Joy and Roland (Jr.). Daughters-in-law Patricia and Pam, sons-in-law Vibert and Prem, grandchildren Alexia, Adam, Roland (3rd), Ryan, Jessica, Reshana, Amina, and Aleisha. Grandson-in-law Jerry, great grandson Ethan, her brother Dennis Henry, her sister Ella Martin, her brother-in-law Edwin Bisson, her sister-in-law Jean Warner, her two surrogate sisters, Beti Prashad and Shamune Gazze, and numerous nieces and nephews.
At the age of 21, Olga married Roland (Sr.), and together they shared a wonderful marriage of 34 years. Olga was deeply devoted to supporting her husband’s teaching career, raising their five children, and creating a loving home filled with warmth. She was a domestic queen—whether decorating, cooking, baking, or wine making, she always gave her best to her family. Olga also organized and managed family vacations, parties, and other celebrations, bringing joy and laughter to every occasion. In 1992, Olga and her late husband, Roland (Sr.), immigrated to the United States, settling in Ozone Park, NY, with their daughter Joy and her family.
Throughout her life, Olga had an infectious zest for life. In her younger years, she enjoyed cycling, dancing, singing, and running track. Raised in a Christian home, her faith was central to her life, and she remained a devout Christian who brought light to every gathering. Olga's circle of friends spanned many countries, and she was known for her kindness, humility, and love for life. Her greatest joy was being a wife and mother, and her unwavering love leaves an everlasting impression on all those who knew her.
