You all have heard the expression time flies; well 91 years 7 months and 9 days ago an angel was born, and she was named Victoria Louise Blanchet, who later became intimately known as Mommy Paul. That angel grew up to become one of the best moms in the world.
While working and with Papi Paul’s support and help, and with whom she has now been reunited in heaven, she raised 7 productive and lovely children. She taught us how to love each other, how to care for each other, how to care for ourselves, how to be respectful, how to be nice and care about people, and how to have faith in the love of God. Without the love of God, nothing is worthwhile.
Our Mom was a loving, kind, generous, wonderful and a great human being. She was a kind of Mom that any child could ever wish for. Raising us gave her great happiness, joy, and satisfaction. We all felt these sentiments in her demeanor and her facial expressions. She loved life, she loved people, and made a positive influence in everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. She was in turn loved by everyone.
Perhaps one of her greatest assets was her resiliency. Mom had multiple life-threatening surgeries and every time we thought she was leaving us, she would bounce back up and begin smiling to everyone's amazement. Her resilience defies logic, science, and medicine, and we thank God for blessing her with longevity and a happy life.
Mom also had a sense of humor. I remember one day Nicole, mom and I were visiting my brother in Florida. I was sleeping with her in the sofa bed in the living room. She was snoring so loudly that I could not sleep. I got up and went to sleep with my sister in the other room. Even with the door closed, I could still hear her snoring, so the next morning I said, “good morning mom! How did you sleep last night?” She answered, “I did not sleep, not even for one minute.” I said to her, “you're kidding.” Then she responded “of course, I was kidding - can't you take a joke?" with a smile on her face.
Our Mom has departed this world, but she continues to live in the hearts of her 7 children, 22 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grand Children. This is an amazing achievement. She was a blessed woman and now she is with God.
We would like to first thank God for sending her our way. This is the best gift God could have given us. We also would like to thank everyone who has in one way or another cared for her and made her feel loved. We thank you all for coming and helping us celebrate her life and paying your deepest respects for her.
We want to give a special thanks to our kid sister Sandra, for her unwavering love, care, and devotion that she provided to our mother from the beginning of her disability until her last breath, a journey that lasted twenty years. Sandra was always there for her, 24/7, days in and days out. Even when at work, she would call two or three times to assure that mom was comfortable. She was relentless in the pursuit of mom’s well-being. The multiple arguments she had with the nurses, the doctors, the administrators at the hospital, and the home attendants can attest to her devotion. She was tired but she somehow always found the energy to provide her with excellent care. Sandra, because of you, and everything you have done, I am certain that Mom had a beautiful, long, and happy life, and for that my brothers, sisters, and I will be forever grateful to you. Please don’t ever forget that. God bless you Sandra. All her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren also contributed in her care and in her happiness.
Our mom is now in a better place, and she is looking at us and urging us not to be in pain but to celebrate the happy life she had when she was with us.
Mommy Paul has left us, but her memories will live forever, and she will never, never, never be forgotten.
