

Virginia Tesalona Tan was born on March 3, 1956 in Davao City, Philippines to Angelica Dumayas Tesalona and Emiliano Trambulo Tesalona. Virginia was the oldest of 6 siblings- Michael Tesalona, Maritess Tesalona Cristobal, Mary-Ann Tesalona-Lauer, Emiliano Tesalona Jr., and Ferdinand Tesalona.
Virginia grew up in Lubang Occidental Mindoro Philippines. She graduated from Philippine Women’s University in Manila, Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Virginia met her husband Albert Braga Tan in the late 1970s on Manga Street, Quezon City as they were next door neighbors. Albert and Virginia were in love ever since.
Virginia immigrated to New York with her mother in 1981 to seek better opportunities and establish herself in the United States. Virginia returned to the Philippines in 1984 and married Albert at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Quezon City, Philippines. They were reunited in New York when Albert came to the United States in 1988. They had two beautiful children: Angelita Tesalona Tan and Francis Ryan Tan. Virginia worked as a laboratory technologist for more than 25 years at both North Shore LIJ Forest Hills and Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens. Virginia worked hard balancing two jobs at a time to provide for her family to ensure that her children would have a successful future.
Virginia retired in 2018 after her initial diagnosis with lung cancer. Despite the medical health challenges, Virginia continued to be a positive, resilient and strong woman through it all. She always said that it was her Catholic faith and family is what kept her victorious through every challenge that was presented to her.
Virginia is survived by her husband Albert Tan and two children Angelita Tan and Francis Tan. She devoted her entire life to her family. She has touched so many lives with her wisdom, laughter and love. Virginia will be always remembered as a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will never be forgotten and her memory lives on forever in our hearts.
