William Peter Castellon was born on June 29, 1963, in Queens NY and entered eternal life on October 17, 2016. Simply put, Willie was one of a kind. He lived on his terms and there was no one else like him – he had a heart of gold, a loving nature and a million dollar smile. He was truly a gentle giant. When “Big Willie” entered the room, you and everyone around you knew it.
Willie loved life and especially loved his wife, his parents, his Harley, family, friends and co-workers, the NY Giants, Bacardi Ocho, good food, and the thought of retirement – not necessarily in that order. He was less enthusiastic about vegetables, being told what do, liars and hypocrites – not necessarily in that order either. He was a NYC MTA bus driver for 30 years. He was the driver that parents entrusted with their children, riders looked forward to seeing in the morning, and co-workers loved like a brother.
He loved children, and they him. His nieces, nephews, and godchildren held a special place in his heart, and he in theirs. He had a special bond with them and enjoyed time playing video games, chatting on Facebook and just joking around. He always made them feel important and loved.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Willie during his 53 years. Among them: you really can post too much on Facebook; “you’re a blabber” really means you’re loved; it’s never too late to be in the pool; some toys can make you happy; an angelic face can sometimes hide a mischievous streak; and you can never spend too much time on a Harley.
Above all, Willie taught us to love, laugh and be ourselves, without worrying about what other people think, and to treat people with kindness and respect. His warmth wrapped around you and his kindness enveloped you, just like one of his bear hugs.
His spirit is carried on by his loving family: wife Helene Castellon (nee Jacobowitz), mother Ana Castellon (nee Baez), siblings: Olga & Marco Ponce, Maria & Gilbert Castellon, Rose & Bob Rodriguez, Amy & Marvin Jacobowitz, and Karen Haubenstock & Artie Jacobowitz. As well as, nieces and nephews: Peter, Edward, James, Richie, Ivan, Jorge, Chloe, Megan, Brandon, Christopher, Melissa, Bryan, Jesse, Theresa, Adam, Erin, Jason, Alyse and Megan. Also, great-nieces, great- nephews, godchildren, and friends & family too numerous to list, but not forgotten. Willie is now reunited with his father, Michael, and brothers Rafael and Michael. He is an angel watching over us all.
Willie, rest in peace. We will meet again, someday. You have left us far too soon, but from the bottom of our broken hearts, we thank you. During your time here, you touched the lives and hearts of so many, and each of us will carry your memory and that love forever.…
