

Arthur E. Johnson was born on July 17, 1936 in Boston where he grew up. He was a graduate of Boston :University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. For 25 years he worked at the National Shawmut Bank, starting as a teller, but later in the rapidly expanding computer field. He was the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts.
Masonry was a big part of Arthur's life. He was raised as a Master Mason in Macedonian Lodge in 1961. He was also a member of several Masonic appendant bodies. He was Grand Monarch of the Grottoes of North American in 1986 and Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts from 1996 to 1998. In 2001 he served as Imperial Chaplain of the Shrines of North America.
Arthur Loved to shop; he loved gadgets and DIY projects; he loved junk food and Diet Pepsi; he loved his pets. He was blessed to have many friends and he cared very deeply for all of them. Most of all, he loved his family: Barbara, his wife for 67 years; their daughter, Dawn and her husband, Stephen Megquier; his grandchildren, Sarah Megquier and Lauren and her husband, James Payne; his great-Grandchildren Genni, Umer, Damien and Calliope; and his grandchildren Caitlin and Scott who predeceased him. He was the son of the late George W. Johnson, Sr. and the brother of the late George W. Johnson, Jr.
Following two years of declining physical and mental health, Arthur quietly took one final breath and died on May 15, 2025.
A visitation for Arthur will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02170, followed by a funeral service from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Quincy Community United Methodist Church or to Grand Lodge of Mason Scholarship Fund.
