

Born in 1947 in Ping On village, Toishan, China, Danny Chin the third generation of U.S. immigrants on his paternal side made possible by his great-grandfather, first claimed US citizenship as born in San Francisco under the paper name Chung Ah Way. His great grandfather was discharged on Habeas Corpus from detention at Angel Island when attempting to enter the US in 1887 at the height of the Chinese Exclusion Act. His great-grandfather served as butler for C.E. and L.H. Phillips in Swampscott, MA.
Danny's grandfather Walter H.T. Chin immigrated in 1917, as a laundryman and served as cook in the U.S. Army during World War II. His father You Ming immigrated in 1951 and eventually opened the family restaurant business, and brought Danny to Boston in 1969. He first met his wife Tammy in Hong Kong though initially as acquaintance through his sister Diana as elementary school friends.
Eventually they started dating as adults and got married on his birthday on August 23, 1971 in Hong Kong. He left shortly thereafter back to the US. His wife immigrated and joined him later at the end of the same year and have the first generation of American born children, Nelson and Catherine.
His culinary skills exceled as breadwinner for the family as he worked long hours as a cook in family restaurant business. His hobbies included Chinese calligraphy as well as painting and drawing which produced many pieces of art he freely gave to family members and friends throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife Tammy, children Nelson and Catherine, daughter-in-law Michelle, and grandchildren Tobias, Joachim and Mariah. He leaves behind his older brother Andrew, sister-in-law Yu-Fee, nieces Wendy, Vivian, Susan, and grandniece Charissa and grandnephew Kevin. He also leaves behind his younger sister Diana, and brother-in-law Paul, nieces Tina, Jade and nephew James, and grandnephews Niall, Liam and Jameson.
Closed casket funeral service will be held promptly at 12 Noon on Wednesday November 22, 2017 at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock St, Quincy, MA, followed by internment at Blue Hills Cemetery, 700 West St, Braintree. Guests are welcomed immediately afterwards for mercy meal at China Pearl Restaurant, 237 Quincy Ave, Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Danny Chin can be made to further mental health research and advocacy such as Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or National Alliance on Mental Illness.
