Hong Oanh le

After fleeing Vietnam post-war, Hong Oanh overcame countless hardships with unwavering determination. She worked numerous jobs, pursued her studies, and opened her own hair salon in South Boston, building a brighter future for her family. Growing up, her children always felt the warmth of her love and knew her devotion. Known for her infectious laugh and love for joking, she brightened every gathering. A passionate traveler, she delighted in exploring new cultures and cuisines. A devoted Buddhist, she embodied patience, care, and generosity, always ready to help others, finding solace through visits to Buddhist temples. An amazing cook, in the Vietnamese custom of expressing love, she always asked if you were hungry, lovingly serving exquisite dishes like phở, bún riêu, and gỏi cuốn, uniting loved ones. After retirement, she spent joyful days at the Vietnamese Community Center in Dorchester, socializing with friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, calling her children often to remind them they were loved and cherishing time with her grandchildren, whose visits filled her with joy.

The second of seven siblings, she was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Le Dang Kim Bien. She is survived by her siblings, Le Dang Hoang, Le Thi Phuong Van, Nguyen Thi Yen Nga, Le Thi Loan Phuong, and Le Dang Thuan; her beloved husband, Phuc Nguyen; her daughters Kimberly Nguyen (Viet Nguyen), Lynn Nguyen, and Elizabeth Lee (Andy Lee); her sons Calvin Nguyen (Alisa Nguyen), Danny Nguyen (Judy Kong), and Vin Nguyen (Lauren Zichittella); and eleven grandchildren. Her legacy of love, resilience, and joy endures.

A wake will be held at Deware Funeral Home, Quincy, MA, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hong Oanh’s memory to the family, who will contribute to Buddhist temples of her choice. Following the burial, all are welcome to join family members for a vegetarian lunch and prayers at Linh Quang Buddhist Meditation Temple, 833 Washington St, Abington, MA 02351.
