Born in a small village in what is now Shenzhen, China, Mr. King lost his father at a young age and, with his mother, learned early the values of perseverance. He went on to become a sailor, setting out from Hong Kong in search of better opportunities in the United States for his growing family. He worked long hours as a chef in Chinese restaurants to support his family back home. In 1975, he was finally able to reunite with his family and bring them to the United States in search of a better life.
A simple man and a man of few words, Mr. Lam lived with quiet dignity, never asking for much. He believed deeply in the value of education, pushing his daughters to study hard and strive for a better life than the one he had known. His greatest pride came not from personal achievement, but from the success and happiness of his family.
After retirement, King found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with his grandchildren, whose laughter and presence brought him peace and fulfillment in his later years.
Mr. Lam is survived by his wife, Chau Tai Lam; three daughters, Cindy of Quincy, Madeline and her husband, Kai Sing Lee, of Medfield, and Siu Tip of Williamstown, VT; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, and Rebecca Lee.
