Lucy Thérèse Garvey was born on February 19, 2026. Her life, while brief, was a beautiful example of God’s gifts. Lucy was diagnosed with Trisomy 18/Edwards Syndrome in the womb. Lucy was immediately loved, and that love for her grew throughout the pregnancy. Hundreds of people have been “Loving on Lucy,” praying for her, sharing her story, and helping her family as they navigated the challenges associated with Trisomy 18. Through this, Lucy taught many people about the absolute gift of life, and the extraordinary impact love has on her family, friends, and wider community is extraordinary.
Lucy is the daughter of Michael and Kathryn Garvey, who were dedicated to caring for Lucy throughout the pregnancy and for the duration of her life. Michael and Katie poured out all their love on Lucy, their ninth child. Lucy’s siblings John, Maeve, Kevin, Grace, Mary Margaret, Nora, Cy, and Joy loved Lucy with all their hearts. They all were able to spend time with Lucy, holding her hand, tickling her, kissing her forehead, and praying for her. Lucy’s loving grandparents, John and Jeanne Garvey, and John and Kathy Hubbard, were fortunate to be able to meet and spend time with her. In addition to her immediate family and grandparents, Lucy was loved by many aunts and uncles, and 41 first cousins.
Friends and family are invited to join the Garveys for a celebration of Lucy’s life with a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 28 at 10:00am at St. Brigid Church, 1989 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
Mass of Christian Burial will be live streamed at the following link.
