

Walter Joseph Lowry, Jr. (Walta), age 69, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at his residence in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Walter was born on February 26, 1956, in Boston, Massachusetts and lived in Dorchester and Los Angeles prior to settling in Chelsea.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Joseph Lowry, Sr. and Rosemarie (Salvaggio) Lowry, and his brother, John (Johnny) Lowry. He is survived by his family, including Brian Lowry (Nancy), Annmarie Miranda, and Caryn Wall (Joe). Walter also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
Walter was a kind-hearted and selfless man who lived a life of loyalty, faithfulness, and adventure.
Walter was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served in the aviation support (helicopter) division and was deployed to Okinawa, Japan. His military service embodied the adventurous and hard-working spirit that defined his life.
Walter’s professional career was devoted to the airline industry where he worked for Piedmont Airlines and US Airways before retiring from American Airlines as a training manager. He prided himself in training the next generation of employees with his personalized and creative approach.
Walter was beloved by everyone for his gregarious and fun-loving personality, his adventurous spirit, and his commitment to friends and family. An avid bike rider, Walter rode his bevy of bikes thousands of miles along the east and west coasts. A lover of cars and auto racing, Walter followed NASCAR, IndyCar, and Formula 1 and medaled as an amateur race car driver. He was a proud New England sports fan.
Walter will be fondly remembered for his appreciation of fine food and the opportunity it provided for social engagement. He had a lifelong appreciation for modern art, classic jazz, and music in general.
Walter was a committed member of the Quincy Elks for over 25 years as an Esteemed Lecturing Knight. Always a reliable participant and volunteer, he contributed to his community with the same devotion he showed in his personal life. He selflessly cared for his grandmother (Nana), father, and mother in their elder years, leaving a legacy of compassion and care.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Deware Funeral Home (576 Hancock St, Quincy, MA) with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m., including honors presented by both the United States Marine Corps and the Elks Lodge. Interment will be private.
