Memoir of Mrs. Yuen Bing Yip Yu
~Bing’s Prayer~
Bing was born and raised in Kowloon, Hong Kong in the forties. It was an economically challenging time for her family and as the eldest with four younger brothers. She had to quit school at an early age in order to help support family. Nevertheless, in those early years of schoolings, she came to know the Lord Christ Jesus and loved to attend church events and activities. In fact, she immersed herself in charitable events and found joy in helping those who were more misfortunate than herself. In her teen years, she met her first love, Jack, and was happily married for 43 years. They had two beautiful daughters, Angela and Janice who were raised to love the Lord like their mother.
Along with her family, Bing embarked on another new chapter in life as they immigrated to America in the seventies. Once again, she was challenged with obstacles like other new immigrants such as language barriers and cultural shocks. Luckily, her husband Jack came from a close- knit family with eight brothers and sisters and their families who were very supportive of each other. They immigrated together and settled in New York and all lived under one same roof! While husband Jack worked long hours in restaurants, Bing worked hard as a garment worker and hotel cleaner. She managed to continue her desire for learning and finished her GED and further her education at community colleges. She finally landed on a decent job in a big company and worked happily for 20+ years with loving coworkers and a very kind boss.
As her two lovely daughters got married and moved on with their own lives, Bing became involved with church and community activities. She loved to sing karaoke with her beloved husband and often participated in singing Chinese operas in community events. Her life’s happiest moment was when she was baptized in Christ and became an active member at her church. In fact, she was one of church’s choir group member along with her daughter, Angela. Together, they served the Lord wholeheartedly and sang praises to Him.
Once again, life was no rosy garden as she was pronounced in the hospital bed on her 62rd birthday, that she had final stage lung cancer….her family, relatives and friends were devastated by the her sudden illness and poor Jack, was heartbroken with tears falling like raindrops. Yet she comforted them while singing the hymns, “Emmanuel”, (God is with me). She had peace and joy within her heart and had never, not even once, blamed anyone or the Lord for getting this tragic illness. Her strong faith in God was like no others! So, miraculously, there was a new trial cancer treatment for her and doctors said her cancer cells had amazingly shrunk! She has continued to live a year and half of precious moments with her family and friends. She often prayed faithfully that they too, would be saved like her through Lord Christ Jesus our savior and be able to find peace and love in their hearts even struck with serious illness such as cancer.
Sadly, three months ago, cancer cells had escaped into her brain and even after whole brain radiation and chemo therapy, there was no recovery. The final days she was being cared for in her own home by loving husband, daughters, daughter in laws, two beloved grandsons, relatives, friends; church friends and pastor, praying earnestly day and night. On March 17, 2011, she has rested peacefully with the Lord.
She often said, “It’s ok to cry, but it’s better to laugh and smile!” Bing always had a positive outlook to life and a bright and cheerful personality, yet her greatest strength came from her firm believe that God has promised eternal life after death. There is no pain but pure joy in Heaven above. She is not dead but very much alive in our hearts and she had always sincerely hoped that,
‘Someday, all my relatives and friends would accept Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.’ This is Bing’s Prayer. Amen.
