Dorothy Dot Byers Nelson

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Byers Nelson of 217 Harris Avenue, died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 77. Mrs. Nelson was born in Rutherford County on September 15, 1933 to the late William Paul and Vera Sisk Byers. She was also preceded in death by her brother L. L. "Pete" Byers. She was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church and worked as a public school teacher and guidance counselor for 36 years. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bob Nelson of Raeford; a son, Allen W. Nelson and his wife Amy of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Annis B. Ledford and her husband Bob of Forest City, and Paulette B. Holland and her husband Don of Forest City, NC; and two grandchildren, Katie and Teddy Nelson of Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends at the home. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Raeford United Methodist Church with Reverend Michael Elliott officiating. Burial will be held 2:00pm, Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery in Forest City, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 North Main Street, Raeford, NC 28376.
