Mrs. Abney was born in Queensbury, NY on November 7, 1946, to the late Gordon Wemmitt and Josephine Doner Wemmitt, and two brothers, Thomas Wemmitt and Gordon Wemmitt Jr.
She is survived by her husband Jeffrey D. Abney of Raeford, two daughters Lisa Marie Thornton and her husband Kris of Eastover, NC and Elizabeth Nicole Sparks and her husband Russell of Ft. Mitchell, AL. three grandchildren, Virginia Martin, Isaiah Abney and Jadian Abney, and one great grandson Vincent Martin. a sister Alice Hunt of N.H.
A private memorial service will be held later.
