Elizabeth Matthis Brown

Mrs. Elizabeth Matthis Brown 85 of Red Springs died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Mrs. Brown was born in Sampson County on May 26, 1929 to the late Byrant Newkirk Matthis and Manie Clyde Knowles Matthis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neill Shaw Brown. Mrs. Brown was a public school teacher of 34 years in Sampson and Robeson County schools before retiring. She was an active lifelong member and former moderator of Red Hill Universalist Church. She is survived by her daughter Sheila Brown Evans of Red Springs, NC; 1 grandson Patrick Chrisjohn Evans III of Red Springs, NC; 1 sister Anita Ann Matthis Merritt of Wilmington, NC and several special cousins, nieces and nephews, many lifelong friends and her recliner buddy, Rufus. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Friday, July 18, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, NC and also 9 am Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Red Hill Universalist Church 7031 Taylors Bridge Highway Clinton, NC 28328 followed by funeral services at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Red Hill Universalist Church 7031 Taylors Bridge Highway, Clinton, NC 28328.
