Evelyn Myers

Dateline: Southern Pines Mrs. Evelyn Myers of Southern Pines, formerly of Raeford, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in FirstHealth Hospice House at the age of 88. Mrs. Myers was born in Cumberland County on August 21, 1926 to the late Matthew P. Young and Edith Vermell Melvin Young. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Ashburn and Charles (Bill) Myers. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Elwood, Mervin, Carl, Robert, Maurice; two sisters, Myrtle Hancock and Mary Alice Cain. She was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church and the Pearl S. Cole Sunday School Class, and all activities within the church. Mrs. Myers was also a member of the Woodman of the World since 1962, where she held offices in the local district, state past president, and also on the national level. She was an executive secretary for Burlington Industries until she retired in 1987. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon K. Ashburn (Stephannie Willis) of Eagle Springs; her brother, Ernest Harold Young and his wife, Erma of Fayetteville; her sister, Tense Young Jackson of Lilesburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 1-2pm Saturday, January 17, at the Raeford United Methodist Church 308 North Main Street Raeford NC. Funeral service will begin at 2pm Saturday at the Raeford United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Castle officiating. Burial will be in the LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raeford UMC, 308 N. Main St, Raeford, NC 28376 and/or the Woodmen of the World ENC Youth Camp, 9210 Highway 55 West, Kinston, NC 28504, American Heart Association 2711 Breezewood Avenue, Suite A Fayetteville NC 28303.
