Fred attended Hoke County High School, where he excelled in football—an athletic gift that opened doors for him to play college football for Chattanooga, Lees-McRae, and Catawba. That same discipline and determination continued as Fred played football for the U.S. Army for several years, reflecting both his commitment to service and his lifelong love of the game.
With the same hard-working drive that defined his playing years, Fred went on to found Holland Fence and Landscaping Company, which later became Holland Fence and Pool Company. Through years of dedicated effort, he built not only a business, but also a reputation for reliability and perseverance.
Fred was married to Mrs. Jean Holland for 64 years, a partnership rooted in enduring love and loyalty. Together, they shared a life centered on family and the simple joys of time spent together. Fred also enjoyed traveling, and he especially loved camping and days at the beach—places where his warmth and humor could be felt most naturally, in easy conversation and shared moments.
A life-long member of Antioch Presbyterian Church of Red Springs, NC, Fred’s faith and church family remained a constant throughout his life, offering both grounding and community across the years.
