

Dateline: Red Springs Joseph Todd Buie age 89 died on January 25, 2014. He was born in Robeson County to the late Lacy Cleveland and Ruth Todd Buie April 17, 1924. After graduating from Red Springs High School in 1941, he enrolled in Oak Ridge Military Institute from which he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. He flew 29 missions over Europe as a tail gunner in the 833rd Bomb Squadron in World War II. Following the war he attended North Carolina State University, joining the NCDOT as a civil engineer in 1948 retiring in 1986. In his retirement he continued to operate the family farm as well as enjoying his grandchildren. His other passions included attending NC State football games with his family of tailgaters and enjoying the company of the Ocean Isle Beach community. Joseph Todd Buie is survived by his wife Lillian Williams Buie (Pink) of the home, his daughter Todd Buie Weaver and her husband Andy Weaver of Red Springs and his two grandchildren Grace and Lacy Weaver. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and close Buie cousins. His tireless and loving caregivers have included Yvonne Flowers, Rena Beard, David Jackson, Judy West, and Brenda Cullinan. Funeral services will be held in the Red Springs Presbyterian Church Saturday February 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Drs. Beverly and George Thompson officiating. Following the service the committal will be officiated by the Reverend Michael L. McGehee in the Philadelphus Presbyterian Church Sanctuary in lieu of the grave site. The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the committal service.
