Lauchlin McFadyen

Mr. McFadyen was the son of Lacy Dickson McFadyen Sr. and Donnie Gainey McFadyen of Raeford.

He was born January 28th, 1941, in Raeford.

A native of Hoke County, Mr. McFadyen graduated from Hoke County High School in 1959. After high school, Lockie attended Campbell University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Lockie had many jobs during his lifetime before becoming a magistrate. He was a teacher at several places over the years from high school in Wagram, NC to Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, Ft. Bragg, and the Sandhills Correctional Facility in Aberdeen, NC. During summers between teaching, Lockie earned his pilot’s license and became a crop duster for Roy Wood in Raeford. He had many other jobs interspersed with his teaching career to include building golf courses, paving roads and spraying witchweed for the state.

In 1975, he married Linda Carpenter of Pine Bluff, NC where he gained a step-son, Star Elton. Lockie was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish all over and around Hoke County in addition to one of his favorite places, Harkers Island and Cape Lookout. Duck hunting with friends from the Raft Swamp Hunt Club in Raeford was one of his most treasured pastimes. In addition to his lifelong hobby of piloting Piper taildraggers around Raeford, Lockie was a talented carpenter and wood carver. The exciting stories and adventures that Lockie was a part of during his life are too many to mention. He was a unique individual who was loved by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.

Survivors include his step-son, Star Elton of Wilmington, NC; two nieces, Megan McFadyen of Charlotte and Laura Mac Austin of Raeford; one nephew, Lacy McFadyen of Raeford and numerous cousins from the McFadyen and Gainey families.

A visitation will be held at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford on Saturday, June 1st from 10am-12pm.
