Lewis Nelson

Mr. Nelson was born in New Bern, NC on July 28, 1942, to the late James R. Nelson and Vera Mackey.  Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Nelson. He served in the US Army and was employed by the New York Department of Correction before he retired in 1989.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Jenkins Nelson of Raleigh, NC. three children, Barbara Nelson of Sanford, NC. Tyson Nelson of Santee, SC and Tracy Washington of Raeford, NC. three grandsons, Gerroid Doughty, TreVon Doughty, and Tyson Nelson. Four granddaughters, LaTryce Doughty, Tianna Washington, Tynisa Nelson and Oliver Nelson. Three great grandsons, Charles Brown, Noah Brown, and Kenai Gwinn; three brothers, George Morgan (Joyce), Jeffrey Nelson (Anitra) and Godfrey Nelson (Gail); two sisters Gloria Gaskins and Carrie Johnson. two brothers-in-law, James Jenkins (Linda) and Larry Taylor (Nancy); four sisters-in-law Minnie Martin, Bonnie Allen Glenda Roulhac, and Sarah Christian. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousin.

A memorial service will be held later.
