Mark Louis Benton

Mr. Mark Louis Benton of 243 Heartwood Drive, Raeford, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at the age of 43. Mr. Benton was born on March 28, 1967 in New Bern, NC. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Robert Earl Benton and his maternal grandparents, Louis Melvin Wilcox and Elizabeth Banks Wilcox Mark attended North Carolina State University where he received his Civil Engineering degree. He then worked with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers for over 20 years. Mark used his Civil Engineering skills in the hurricane relief efforts in Raleigh after Hurricane Fran, and Miami after Hurricane Andrew. He was very active at First Christian Church in Wilmington until 1998. Survivors include his wife, Jane Campbell Benton; a mother Barbara Ann Wilcox of Arapahoe, NC; a father David Stilley of Arapahoe, NC; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Claire Campbell of Clermont, FL; a daughter, Eddie Jean (EJ) Bates of Raeford, NC; four brothers, Todd Campbell and his wife Dawn of Aiken, SC, Craig Campbell and his wife Lisa of Bradenton, FL, Danny Atkinson and his wife Mariea of Wilmington, NC, and John Stilley and his wife Angela of New Bern, NC; a sister, Michelle Benton of New Bern, NC; two nephews, Kyle Martin and Darrell Poole; four nieces, Brittany Campbell, Whitney Campbell, Stacey Bulfinch, and Lauren Campbell; two god-sons, William Atkinson and Adam Atkinson; and special friends Candy and Hal Pullum, Anita Harrison, and Rene Cannon all of Raeford, NC, and Debbie Williams of Waynesboro, VA A memorial service will be held 2:00pm, Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 at Wood Memorial Chapel on Ft. Bragg with Chaplain David Meyer officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives after the service and at other times at the home.
