July 30, 1938 – August 24, 2025. The little line, the “dash” between Pam’s birthday and her last day with us, represents a long life of caring about students and modeling strong character. Her dash was valuable and meaningful and is defined through her legacy of teaching. She combined her two passions, math and teaching. Pam taught, tutored and mentored thousands of high school students during her 30+ year tenure at Pinecrest High School. Pam made an indelible difference in the lives of students, the community, those in need, her children and grandchildren.
Pam was born in Concord, NC, the only child to Velma and Roy Aldridge. She graduated from Concord High School and Appalachian State University majoring in math education. She later went on to complete her Master’s Degree from UNC Chapel Hill. After college she moved to Lexington, NC and then to Southern Pines, where she met and married Vernon Crumpler.
When not teaching or raising children, Pam loved to read, play bridge, travel, and do crossword puzzles. She was reading multiple books and completing puzzles until her last days. Pam was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Southern Pines, NC serving as a Sunday School teacher, volunteer, and active member. In addition, Pam served her community as an election poll volunteer for decades.
Pam is survived by her 3 daughters, Allison Crumpler of Wilmington NC, Tracy Merchant (Wes) of Aberdeen, NC, and Susan Blanchard (Jonathan) of Carolina Beach, NC; 10 grandchildren, Riley, and Ashlyn Merchant, Nevin, Collins, and Bennett Blanchard, Madison, Grace, Paxton, Rees, and Ridge Massarelli.
A celebration of Pam’s life will be held graveside (Bethesda Cemetery, Aberdeen, NC) on Saturday, October 11th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local Hospice or charity of choice.
