Raymond Taylor, of West End, North Carolina, formerly of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Quail Haven in Pinehurst. Born May 29, 1938, in Washington, D.C., to Raymond and Doris Taylor, he was 87.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Pauline Taylor, of West End; his sister, Patricia Taylor; his children, Lea Ann (David) Paul and David (June) Taylor; his stepsons, Stanley Jackson, Ronald (Michelle) Jackson, and Michael P. (Wendy) Jackson; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Michael P. Jackson; and his granddaughter, Heather N. Jackson.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Ray believed deeply in providing for and supporting his loved ones. He proudly served in the Naval Reserves as a young man and spent 32 years at The Washington Post, overseeing maintenance for the printing presses. In the notoriously loud pressroom, he and his coworkers mastered sign language to communicate - a testament to his adaptability, commitment, and quiet ingenuity.
Ray's generosity extended beyond his career. For 18 years, he volunteered at Moore Regional Hospital, repairing wheelchairs and gurneys, and transporting patients. Though naturally quiet and reserved, his reliability, patience, and strong work ethic shone through.
Outside of work, Ray found peace on the water. Sailing was his refuge, where the calm and patience he embodied in daily life found perfect expression.
Ray will be remembered as a patient, dependable, and loving family man whose steady presence will be deeply missed. His legacy endures in the large family he cherished and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 5th, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Community Presbyterian Church, 125 Everett Rd, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
