

He was predeceased by Beverly, his devoted wife of 51 years and his son Donnie Hawkins. He is survived by his three children: Daughter, Dawn Isbell (Mike Isbell) of West Lafayette, Indiana, Son, Pete Hawkins of Fayetteville, Daughter and caregiver Karrie Hawkins and her cornerstone Virgil Locklear of Fayetteville, nine grandchildren Jennifer, Scott, Brandi, Kayla, Dillon, Brooke, Kevin, Robert, Ashton, and three great grandchildren, Chase, Caden, and Grayson
He was born on April 11, 1937 to Robert and Ella Hawkins (Stanton) in Newport, RI. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his sister Patricia Hawkins of Colorado, and James Hawkins of Rhode Island. He leaves a brother Charles S. Hawkins (Lynda) of Rhode Island, adoptive brother George Hutchins (Brenda) of Vermont, He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.
Pete joined the army in 1956. He served 26 years of active duty. Most of his active duty was with the Special Forces (Green Beret’s). He also spent a number of years with the coveted Delta Force Hostage Rescue Team. He served numerous tours in South East Asia including Vietnam and Thailand. He served with the Special Forces in Berlin, Germany and Bad Tolz, Germany. He did a tour in Mogadishu, Somalia. He attended the US Military Language School where he became proficient in the Russian language. He was trained in Winter warfare, terrorist management, and was a Redeye Gunner. His last assignment was ASD FGGM INSCOM AS.

He retired from the military in 1981. His rank at Retirement was Master Sergeant E8.
After his retirement from the Service he worked as a truck driver and then became business partners with his daughter Karrie in their Landscaping business.
Pete had a great mechanical aptitude. He loved riding in his 1930 Model A Woody and had a passion for fast cars and was a master of all things scientific and mechanical.
He was a true Hawkins, and for this his family will have many memories and stories to pass down for years to come.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 12-1 PM at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford NC.
A service will immediately follow at 1 PM with full military honors and Rev. Ernest Goins officiating.
