Shelby Jean Simmons passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2026. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Shelby was born in Raeford on August 7th, 1938 to Evelyn and David Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Larry, her sister Libby and her husband Archie Simmons.
Shelby was a kind and gentle woman who, as a child, picked cotton, strung tobacco and worked at the local diner. As a young woman got married, became a mom and over the decades moved to Kansas, Colorado, St. Thomas USVI, Oregon and then later in life, back home to North Carolina.
She enjoyed activities from gardening, cooking, sewing to crafting. Shelby was also an energetic volunteer and leader with Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and countless school and church programs.
She was Archie’s “right hand” on his construction projects and his dance partner for 68 years.
Shelby is survived by her son Bobby Simmons (Valerie); daughter Bonnie Schultz; three grandchildren, Robert (KC), Andrew (Chelsea) and Samantha; three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Lorelai, Solei and one more on the way; her brother David and sisters Carolyn, Wanda, Debbie and Betty.
Mom gave us everything and we carry her wisdom and love forward every single day.
