

Dr. William Hampton Shirer, 84, of 165 Mt. Willing Rd, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at home. After receiving his degree in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, he was employed by Clemson University at The Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. As a veterinary medical officer in the US Army, he was a member of The Military Advisory Group to Nationalist China, served in Japan during the Korean Campaign, and was assigned duty stations under the US Third Army Hqs., Atlanta, Ga and The US Fifth Army Hqs., Chicago Il. He conducted a general practice in Georgetown for a number of years, then was employed by The US Civil Service Administration and was assigned at Raeford, NC with the US Department of Agriculture. He was an ardent outdoorsman who in his later years studied and enjoyed painting at his home. A visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2:00pm at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue. Raeford, NC A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford. Burial will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Southern Pines, NC He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth (Betty) Emanuel Shirer; sister, Alice Marian Shirer; brothers, John Marion Shirer, Samuel Walker Shirer, and Clarence Brice Shirer; and son, Budd Hill Shirer. Survivors include daughters: Adelia Ann (and Rev. Devon) Ruth, Saluda and Rev.
