She was a native of the town of Burgaw in Pender County, daughter of Thomas J. and Jennie Bowdon Betts. Mrs. Harris attended UNC Women’s College in Greensboro, following which she worked in the administrative offices of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, first in Wilmington and then in Raleigh, following her marriage in 1953 to Lawrence Wesley Harris. She was a longstanding member of Millbrook United Methodist Church and then, following their move to Glenaire Retirement Community, United Methodist Church Cary. Lucille was an active participant in several programs at Glenaire and will be missed by the many friends and staff who enjoyed her good natured company over the years.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her nephew, Redford Williams Jr, M.D., of Durham; grand-niece Jennifer Owens of Charleston, SC; grand-nephew Lloyd Williams of High Point, NC; great-grand-nephew Christopher Phillips of Durham, NC; great-grand-nephew William Phillips of West Palm Beach, FL; great-grand-niece Gabrielle Williams of High Point, NC; and great-grand-nephew Alexander Williams of High Point, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Glenaire Retirement Community, 200 W. Cornwall Rd, Cary at a later date to be determined.
