

Milton Haynes passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014, in Mt. Airy, NC. He was a native of Raleigh and the son of the late Alfred M. and Sara Womble Haynes. Milton attended Fred A. Olds Elementary School and Needham B. Broughton High School, graduating in 1954. While at Broughton, he was a member of the winning 1953-54 Raleigh High School basketball team. Milton entered the US Army in 1955, and served in Tank Company 3rd Battalion, 3rd Arm'd Cav. Regiment. He was stationed in Ft. Mead, MD., and Amberg, Germany. He drove the M48 Patton heavy tank. After completion of his military service, Milton attended UNC at Chapel Hill.
Milton was VP and Banquet Manager of Balentine’s Cafeteria, in Raleigh, for 37 years. He held each employee and customer in high esteem as they did him. Milton received much joy from his mountain home in Todd, NC, the Carolina Hurricanes, and his Scottie and Westie dogs.
Milton was a great-grandson of Chang Bunker. Chang and Eng were the original famous Siamese twins, and Milton was very active in their family reunions for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Adelaide.
He is survived by his wife, Chase Phillips Haynes, and his sister Becky and brother-in-law David Morvil. In addition, survivors include his five children: Larry, Ann Adam and former son-in-law Mark Adam, Yorke, Bill and Chris Haynes, and their mother Geri Haynes and eight grandchildren. Stepchildren include Margaret Boland, Emily Boland and Mark Boland and wife, Lisa. There are also seven step-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s St., Raleigh, on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 1:00 PM, visitation followed at the funeral home. Private family burial was at Montlawn Memorial Park.
