Adam was born on December 7th, 1965 in Iowa City, Iowa to Bonnie Lou Charlene Johnson and James Frederick Lubker. His sister Meghan Lubker was born 2 years later and his half sister Disa Cornish was born in 1980. Adam and Meghan spent their childhood in Chapel Hill, NC. Summers were spent in Stockholm, Sweden where their father lived. Adam and Meghan had the good fortune of being in Sweden when their sister Disa was born. This was just one of many wonderful memories made in Sweden.
Long Beach North Carolina was another place that holds a lot of good memories. Adam, Meghan and their mother Bonnie spent one week each summer in a rental house on the beach. Adam and Meghan spent the days together riding the waves on rafts, building sand castles and looking for shells. The evenings were spent playing card and board games.
Adam graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1985 and went on to college at Warren Wilson in Swannanoa NC. He got a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Political Science and Social Work. Adam continued his education in the sciences at NC State and received a masters in Biochemistry with an emphasis in Toxicology. He loved learning and being a student.
He began his career in Social Work in 1989 when he worked part time as an In Home Aide at one of Wake Counties children’s group homes while he continued his education. After a short break Adam again worked for Wake County Human Services starting in 2005 as a Child Welfare Case Aide. He stayed with this job until his death. He was a valued member of the team and had MANY good friends from work.
Some of his hobbies and interests over the years include mountain biking, building computers, video games, walks at Centennial Campus, reading, and spending time with his children. One of his great loves was travelling. In the early 2000s he spent a few years in Kenya where he owned and operated a high end laundry. He had a great affection for Kenya and would have loved to have settled there someday.
Adam had a wonderful and unique sense of humor. When he first moved into his home he put his name on his front door in the name plate, only it did not say Adam Lubker but rather “Hanamanahasafat”. Adam is survived by his wife Velonah Lubker of Kingston Ontario Canada; his son Jacob Lubker and daughter Sarah Lubker of Raleigh NC; his father James Lubker of Cedar Falls IA; his sister Meghan Lubker of San Mateo CA; and his sister Disa Cornish of Cedar Falls IA.
