

A veteran of World War II, husband of 65 years, father of two sons and grandfather of six children, Albert "Al" William Allan, 89, died peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning surrounded by his family.
Al was born March 31st, 1925, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He served in the Navy during World War II before enrolling at Rutgers and graduating with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. He then worked at American Standard for a few years and then began many decades at Westinghouse before retiring to spend more time with his wife, Marion, and his sons, Albert and Bob, and their children. He also spent time ushering at N.C. State athletic events and all types of events at the PNC Center and became a Master Gardener.
Al loved square dancing, spending time at Lake Gaston and Our Lady of Lourdes Church and enjoying the company of his family. He is survived by his wife, Marion; his two sons, Albert and Bob, their wives, Carol and Lelia; and his grandchildren, Stephen, Kristen, Lindsay, Victoria, Andrew and MaryGrace.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, at 2718 Overbrook Drive in Raleigh, NC, 27608, Monday at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow immediately. A visitation will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home at 7209 Glenwood Avenue.
