Alice Champion Hart of Raleigh, beloved wife, mother, sister, and aunt died at home with family Tuesday November 2nd. Alice will always be remembered for her love of her family, her sense of humor and her courage during tough times. A Raleigh native, Alice attended Hugh Morrison High School and was a lifetime member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church.
Alice and John’s marriage was a true love story lasting 57 years. After marrying John, she finished getting her degree from Meredith College. She and John raised three children, and at the same time she had a lifetime career teaching first grade. Upon retirement, Alice enjoyed spoiling her three grandchildren and spending time with family.
Her children feel honored to have had a mother that always encouraged them, nurtured them, laughed with them, and taught them how to face adversity with such grace and courage. We loved our mother very much and she will be in our hearts forever.
Alice is survived by her children, Lisa Hart , John R. Hart II and wife Teresa, Laura Dorton and her husband David; grandchildren Sarah Rose Dorton, Jack Dorton, Hailey Hart; brother William Champion and wife Josephine.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, November 5, 2010 at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home St. Mary’s Street.
