Andrew Thomas Spinney, 33, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Archer Lodge, North Carolina. Born on April 25, 1988 in Boston, Massachusetts; he was one of three sons to Bradford John Spinney and Eileen Lovett Spinney.
Andrew was a kind and loving soul who delighted in time with friends, family, and traveling. Andrew’s first travel abroad was to Ireland as a child, where he loved to hunt for leprechauns in the rock walls of our family homestead.
As he grew older, his wanderlust never faded, and he hiked and traveled extensively in the US and Europe. The pinnacle of his travels was a 500-mile hike on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in 2017. Andrew made lifelong memories and friends on his travels, many of which are documented in his many photos.
Andrew was a man of many hobbies. An accomplished musician (with an affinity for mandolin), he played and enjoyed many picking circles in traditional, folk, and Americana music. Also a semi-professional photographer, Andrew took many photos on his travels and had a fledgling photography business, Treble Tree Photography.
After Andrew bought his home in Archer Lodge, his list of hobbies grew as he had an affinity for homesteading. Gardening, chickens, bonsai, and stained glass became his passions. He truly had a knack to make his house a home.
Andrew is survived by his father, Bradford John “Brad” Spinney, of Raleigh; brother, Jonathan Bradford Spinney and wife Ashlin Hube Spinney, of Cary; by his nephew and niece, William Rockwell and Emerson Barrett Spinney; grandmother Mary Kelly Lovett, of Charlton; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
Andrew is also survived by his wonderful dog, Banjo; cat, Monroe; and many chickens, ducks, and pheasants. Banjo is will be staying with Andrew’s father, Brad, and his other animals are being placed in loving homes.
Andrew was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Joseph Spinney; by his mother, Eileen Lovett Spinney; his grandfather, Patrick Vincent Lovett; and his grandparents, Paul Rockwell and Priscilla Bradford Spinney.
A Memorial Gathering to Celebrate Andrew’s Life will be held in the Spring. More information will be added once available. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Andrew’s memory can be made to American Pilgrims on the Camino.
