

Ann Penney Frye Bason, age 88, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. She was born in Raleigh on December 8, 1934, where she grew up and graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School. She said she will always remember Broughton as a wonderful school that prepared her for college at Wake Forest and created lifelong friendships with people who remained dear to her.
She graduated in 1957 from Wake Forest College with a degree in religion and math. While teaching in Chapel Hill, she earned a master’s degree in math and education. In all, she taught in high schools for 35 years with the last 17 years at Millbrook High School.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, hiking, and playing bridge – just to name a few of her passions. She was actively involved in a book club known as the “Lollies”. She said that the friendships with these ladies were so precious. Also, involvement in the church was very special and important to her. She loved the Lord. She wrote “Without Him, I would be nothing.”
She is survived by a loving family and many friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rex Hospital for the care and compassion they showed her before she moved to Transitions Lifecare for her final day.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Hayes Barton Baptist Church at 1800 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin after the service.
