Ann McClenny Johnson Hammond passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 92. Ann was born on April 30, 1933, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1951, and East Carolina College in 1955. Ann worked at NC State University for decades before retiring in 2009. Ann was very dedicated to her family, enjoyed collegiate sports and was a lifelong NC State fan. She lived a long and fulfilling life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vivie Viola McClenny Johnson and Louis Preston Johnson; her brother, Glenwood Preston Johnson; and her sisters, Norene Johnson Clement and Vivie Johnson Wiggins.
She is survived by her son, Steven Hammond, his wife, Dana and their daughter, Taylor, of Tampa, FL; her daughter, Karen Hammond and her daughter, Madison of Raleigh, NC; and her sister, Gloria Johnson Fletcher of Greenville, NC. She was loved by many extended family members.
A memorial service for Ann will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, 718 Hillsborough St, Raleigh NC 27603. The family will receive friends following the service at Hillyer. A private family burial will be held at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro, NC.
Ann's life and legacy will be honored and remembered by all who knew her.
