

Ann Vallentyne Walker died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at her home. She was born on June 26,1926 in Oak Park, Illinois and spent her school years there. She graduated from Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1948 and the following fall married James Hunt Walker and moved to his birthplace, Raleigh, North Carolina. They had three children: Allin Vallentyne Walker, Stewart Mims Walker and Jeny Walker.
Ann was a member of the Junior League of Raleigh, a charter member and president of The Auxiliary of the Wake County Bar Association, a charter member and president of The Raleigh Fine Arts Society, a member of the Olla Podrida Book Club, The Carolina Country Club and The Assembly. She served as docent at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Gregg Museum of Art & Design and the Executive Mansion. She was a deacon at White Memorial Presbyterian Church and for many years a member of the Christian Fellowship Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Jeny Walker and her sister, Jane Vallentyne Leaycraft.
Two children survive: Allin Vallentyne and his wife Margaret Lockwood, Stewart Mims and her “adopted son” William Edwin Walker and his husband Edgar Waenke; five grandchildren, Theodore Walker, Andrew Walker (wife, Katie) and Zachary Walker (wife, Jillian), Jessica Moldenhauer, Marsha Umanzor (husband, Edis); and eight great-grandchildren; niece, Janet Hoyle Slaughter and the Jane Vallentyne Leaycraft family survive her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 18th at 1:00 pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh. A reception will immediately follow the service at White Memorial.
