Anne was born on November 26,1946 at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina and was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. After graduating from Myers Park High School in 1964, she went on to study math at Agnes Scott College. While in Atlanta, she met the love of her life, Tom Buckler. Shortly after graduation, on September 7, 1968, Tom and Anne were married at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. After several years living in the Midwest, Anne couldn’t wait to escape, so they moved back ‘south’ and settled down in Simsbury, Connecticut, where Anne devoted her life to caring for their two children, Kim and Kristin. Following another jaunt through the Midwest, they returned to North Carolina for retirement, to be near their children and grandchildren.
Anne was an active participant in all aspects of her children’s lives and impacted many others through her role as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She never grumbled when her daughters signed her up for yet another volunteer assignment. Anne filled her family’s lives with magical moments through the traditions she created and all the unforgettable homemade touches. In her free time between volunteer and family activities, she enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and participating in Newcomers Club, Garden Club, and Red Hat Society.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Banks Raleigh Cates Jr and Mary Jean Robinson Cates of Charlotte, NC. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Thomas H. Buckler III; two children: Kimberly B. Botha (Jonathan) of Durham, NC and Kristin B. DeAngelo (Sam) of Fuquay Varina, NC; step-mother, Sandra M. Cates of Charlotte, NC; seven siblings: Dr. Banks R.
