

Annie Bridgman Manning Burrus, age 93, died November 9, 2012. Born in Washington, NC October 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Charles Flynn Stancill and the late Celia Bridgman Stancill. She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Hodges Manning, who died in 1988 and with whom she had two daughters and a son, and her second husband, Robert Smith Burrus, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Burrus raised her family in Williamston, NC and was a long-time resident at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. She especially loved the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico River and often said the most important thing to her was her family.
Mrs. Burrus is survived by daughters, Celia Manning Poole and husband Grey, and Miriam Manning Sauls and husband Bruce of Raleigh; and daughter-in-law, Jeannie Golden Manning of Washington, NC; grandchildren, Susan Poole Whatmore and husband Max, Ashley Bridgman Poole, Brock Poole Lunceford and husband Tommy, Charles Grey Poole, IV and wife Shepherd, Walker Lynch Poole and wife Anne, Charles Hodges Manning, III and wife Lesleigh, Kathleen Manning Miles and husband Hart, Sarah Golden Manning, Claire Manning Sauls and William Blount Sauls; great grandchildren, Adrian Whatmore, Elizabeth, William, Mary Jane, Walker, Virginia and Lilly Poole, Caroline, Emily and Hodges Manning, Hart and Wade Miles and Chase Lunceford; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Charles Hodges Manning, Jr., who died in September of this year.
The family wants to thank the staff of the Stewart Health Center at Springmoor and Hospice of Wake County for their wonderful loving care at the end of her life.
A funeral service will be held at the Springmoor Auditorium, 1500 Sawmill Road in Raleigh November 17, at 11 am with a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street in Williamston, NC at 4 pm. Visitation will be at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street in Raleigh, Friday, November 16 from 6 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608 or the charity of one's choice.
