Arnoldus Ambrose Verhoeven, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated member of his community, peacefully passed away on June 6th, 2023. Arnoldus was born to Everett Verhoeven and Ruth Mae Bascom on August 5, 1929.
Arnoldus, known to family and friends as "Arnold," led a remarkable life filled with service, compassion, and unwavering dedication. He joined the Army after graduating high school where he pursued his passion for electronics at Radio School. Following his military service, Arnold embarked on a successful career at IBM, where he utilized his exceptional skills in electronics for many years. His dedication and proficiency in the field led to his induction into the prestigious IBM Quarter Century Club, a testament to his long-standing commitment and contributions to the company.
In 1965, Arnold and his family relocated to North Carolina, where he would leave an indelible mark on the community. Arnold and his wife, Rosemarie, founded the Parents Association for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children. Together, they worked tirelessly to establish preschool services for deaf children not only in the Raleigh area but also throughout North Carolina. Arnold and Rose's hard work and shared vision have positively impacted the lives of numerous children and their families, leaving an enduring legacy of inclusivity and support.
Arnold's commitment to service extended beyond the realm of education. He was a faithful member of the New Apostolic Church where he served as a minister for 25 years offering countless individuals spiritual guidance and support. Arnold also devoted his time and energy to the American Legion Post 530, where he served as Commander for two years. His leadership and dedication were commendable, inspiring others to follow his example.
Throughout his life, Arnold cherished his family. He celebrated 67 years of marriage with his loving wife, Rosemarie, who stood by his side through every triumph and challenge. Together, they raised four children: Marc, Cary, Katrina, and Daniel, who brought immense joy and pride to their lives. Arnold was a beloved grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to fourteen great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his brother Frank and his wife, Rosyln Verhoeven of Johnson City, New York, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Everett, Jr., Neil, William, and Larry.
Arnold Ambrose Verhoeven will be remembered for his selfless dedication to others, his unwavering faith, and his love for his family. His legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
A visitation for Arnold was held on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC. The funeral service followed at 1:00 PM. A committal service was held immediately following the funeral, at Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave, Raleigh, NC.
