Balvir Kaur Virk, born August 7, 1931, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 26, 2024. She was born in Lahore and lost both her parents by the time she was fourteen years old. Though her early years were difficult, she moved to the United States in 1978 and went on to lead a happy life with her husband, Sardar Gurbaxsh Singh Virk, and her 5 children, Gurmeet, Baldev, Surinder, Sukhwinder, and Param, in Durham, NC.
Balvir was an incredible fighter, and her fighting spirit never failed her. She will be remembered most for her laughter, compassion, joy for life, and deep love for her family. A dedicated member of the Sikh Gurdwara of North Carolina from its inception, she embodied the spirit of “seva,” or selfless love, in everything that she did.
She is survived by her husband, Gurbaxsh Singh Virk; her 4 children, Gurmeet, Baldev, Surinder, and Param; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on March 30th and April 6th, 2024, at the Sikh Gurdwara of North Carolina on Banner Street in Durham, NC.
