

Born November 22, 1919, to Hugh A. Thompson, M.D.of Raleigh and Barbara Smith of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England, she graduated from N. B. Broughton High School, and attended Saint Mary’s Junior College and Sweet Briar College. She served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant, j.g. with the WAVES during World War II.
A life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church, she is survived by daughter Barbara E. Church and son-in-law Jimbo McIver of Raleigh, daughter Diana S. Church of Kentville, Nova Scotia, and daughter Elizabeth C. Church of New York City, and grandsons Brett Corter and William Corter both of New York City.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Gardiner B. Parker on January 31, 2007.
Her daughters especially thank her loving caregivers, Wendi Engles, Alonnie Rogers,and Muriel Wilson.
A Memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor immediately following the service. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 120 East Edenton St., Raleigh, NC 27601, or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Arrangements are by Brown- Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC.
