Benjamin Richard McCloud, 42, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2019 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. Born on August 30, 1976 in Brazil, Indiana; he was the son of Samuel Louis “Louie” McCloud, of Morrisville, NC and Kay Redenbarger McCloud, of Raleigh; brother of Ross William McCloud, of Raleigh, NC, and grandson of Anne Sanders of Brazil, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William Thomas McCloud and Norma Jean Adelhelm McCloud, grandfather, Richard Thomas Redenbarger, and step-grandfather Chester “Chuck” Sanders.
Ben worked as a contractor at IBM doing courier services until 2003. His working days came to an end when complications resulting from a childhood brain tumor began to appear. He suffered multiple strokes, and hospitalizations through the subsequent years. His last months were difficult as his health steadily declined. He is finally free of the suffering he had to endure.
Ben enjoyed playing golf for as long as he could, Duke basketball, the Dallas Cowboys, the Indianapolis Colts, the Chicago Cubs, WWE; and summer weeks at Sunset Beach, NC with family. Ben loved a good prime rib or steak, and was always happy with Chick-fil-A nuggets. He had a great sense of humor, and a sweet, easy smile.
He is lovingly remembered by his parents and brother; grandmother; and aunts and uncles; Joy Wilder, Kenny McCloud, and Jill Mann (Steve); Michael Redenbarger, Ted Redenbarger, Samuel Redenbarger (Holly), Tim Redenbarger, and Andrew Redenbarger. He had a large extended family of great aunts and uncles, cousins, step-aunt and uncles and cousins. Ben loved his large, extended family, and he was beloved by all of them.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 3-5 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh). There will be a memorial service for Ben at a later date in his hometown of Brazil, Indiana.
Memorial donations in Ben’s memory may be made to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
