Benton “Ben” Briggs Holt IV, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2019 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. Born on April 1, 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri; he was the son of Ben Holt III and Marla Hughes Atkinson.
Benton graduated from Sparta High School in New Jersey and attained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Louisville. He went onto to work within the HVAC Distribution industry for several years.
Benton earned a soccer scholarship to Louisville and continued his love of the game by joining several sponsored teams after college. He also loved the water, sailing on Crooked Lake in Michigan or walking the beaches along the east coast. He enjoyed Steelers football, discussing all things Corvette, and talking with his step-son Jackson about the responsibilities of becoming a young man. He valued friendships, keeping in touch with former classmates and peers. He enjoyed spending time with his brother Robert, and close friends Jim Titterington, Jimmy Raper and Steve Crane. The greatest joy of his life was his daughter, Robin. He loved teaching her how to be a strong, independent and most importantly, a kind young lady.
For all who knew Benton, they would tell you about his clever sense of humor, his desire to help others and have a positive impact on everyone he met. The person who knew him best will tell you how he changed her life for the better from the day they met. Becoming his wife was an honor and he gave her the gift of over eighteen years of memories, laughs and amazing life experiences.
He is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Laurie; daughter: Robin; step-son: Jackson; by his parents: Benton B. Holt III and wife Ann, of Signal Mountain, TN and Marla Francine Atkinson and husband John, of Cary, NC; by his brother: Robert Allen Holt, wife Jessica and sons, of Auburn, GA; and by many friends and other extended family.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 21st from 12 – 2 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, with a service celebrating Ben’s life to begin at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
